The Kool Gang performed exceptionally well at this year's show and brought masses of energy and brilliance to the overall performance. The audience's response was very positive: "Very brave to cover such classic songs! Pulled it off brilliantly!". All the practice paid off making "this year sound the best yet!!".
A CD of Total Eclipse is available for purchase from Phyl. The CD is a live recording of the show from Churchill and captures the excitment and energy of the band from the theatre itself.
It's well worth a listen!!
Band History
The band was set up around the end of 2002 and was made up of just Steve Berry, Ezra Harvey and Carlo Ippolito. They first played in the 2003 show ‘King of Birds’ as Status Crow. During the show the dancers singing onstage could not be heard over the band as the music was too loud so a decision was made to expand the band to include singers who would sing over the band so that the lyrics could be heard. This new band included Tallulah Berry, Natalie Williams and Sam Wrigglesworth. And as the Wastes of Space and the Not Wastes of Space the band performed in the following show ‘Come On and Roll Over (We’re Heading for a Supernova)’ in 2004. After a year of fun, Tallulah and Sam decided to leave which also meant that two more singers were needed. Rob Murley and Stephanie Callaghan filled these places and the new band performed in ‘It’s Not All Wands Wings and Gold Hair (but there is a bit of that)’ in 2005 as The HeeBeeGeeBees, The Fever Divas & Rob. The band remained the same for ‘Turtles Rock!’ in 2006 but changed its name to Dr Cod, The Cod Pieces and The Fishnets to suit the theme of the musical. Tommie Maddox joined the band at the start of 2007 and is presently the third singer and sixth member of the current band. Tom Hobbs then joined as the new bass player for the eight performances of 'The Animals Danced in Two by Two..(or Did They?) where they performed under the name the Noah Nothings. Total Eclipse saw the expansion of the band to a nine piece group; the addition of the saxophone (played by Gareth Kibble), trumpet (played by Craig Goldsworthy) and drum kit (played by Craig Walker) gave the band a new edge which produced a perfomance full of life and verve!
